The Finite Difference Based Fast Adaptive Composite Grid Method

چکیده
The fast adaptive composite grid (FAC) method is an iterative method for solving discrete boundary value problems on composite grids. McCormick introduced the method in [10J and considered the convergence behaviour for discrete problems resulting from finite volume element discretiza-tion on composite grids. In this paper we consider discrete problems resulting from finite difference discretization on composite grids. We distinguish between two obvious discretization approaches at the grid points on the interfaces between fine and coarse subgrids. The FAC method for solving such discrete problems is described. In the FAC method several intergrid transfer operators appear. We study how the convergence behaviour depends on these intergrid transfer operators. Based on theoretical insights, (quasi-)optimal intergrid transfer operators are derived. Numerical results illustrate the fast convergence of the FAC method using these intergrid transfer operators.

Equidistribution grids for two-parameter convection–diffusion boundary-value problems
In this article, we propose an adaptive grid based on mesh equidistribution principle for two-parameter convection-diffusion boundary value problems with continuous and discontinuous data. A numerical algorithm based on an upwind finite difference operator and an appropriate adaptive grid is constructed. Truncation errors are derived for both continuous and discontinuous problems. Parameter uni...

This paper presents numerical results for the asynchronous version of the fast adaptive composite-grid algorithm (AFACx). These results confirm the level-independent convergence bounds established theoretically in a companion paper. These numerical results include the case of AFACx applied to first-order system least-squares finite element discretizations of the stationary Stokes equations on c...

Two-dimensional Euler equations have been solved on an unstructured grid. An upwind finite volume scheme, based on Roes flux difference splitting method, is used to discretize the equations. Using advancing front method, an initial Delaunay triangulation has been made. The adaptation procedure involves mesh enrichment coarsening in regions of flow with high low gradients of flow properties, acc...

An adaptive unstructured grid generation scheme is introduced to use finite volume (FV) and finite element (FE) formulation to solve the heat equation with singular boundary conditions. Regular grids could not acheive accurate solution to this problem. The grid generation scheme uses an optimal time complexity frontal method for the automatic generation and delaunay triangulation of the grid po...
